The practical definition of the metre
was 1/40 000 000 of the distance
between the North Pole and the Ewuator,
passing through Paris.

The best method of calculating the
Speed of Light was IMHO that, devised by
FIZEAU.

Check your Encyclopeidia. The method has
been compared favourably with modern
techniquies.

It used a spinning disc, a knowledge of
a given distance and a light source.
