Now, as for the radio part of your message:
I remember a system that used a very long 'antenna', and I mean in the
order of 10 miles or so, just a few meters above ground, one end to the
TRX and the other grounded. RX same. This system used the earth as medium
and had a global range. Frequency was very low < 10 kHz. Power unknown to me,
but I will try to find some 'hard data' on this subject, and every input
is welcomed, of course.
