Hello Allan N all,
I'm getting a chuckle, so once again I'll return the favor.
I never heard of Belling-Lee over here and the DIN is in German so that
rather escapes me BUT the D stands for Deutches somethingorother.
The RCA audio plug and jack set was developed by Roach Catchers America
in NYC where roaches abound. The small diameter prevents roaches from
getting inside the equipment and eating the wiring. Roaches will eat
anything including paint off the wall and have a habit of destroying
electronics this way, no kidding here. Unfortunately, manufacturers other
than RCA leave ventilation holes allowing roaches to enter. RCA products
have no such holes so while they don't suffer from roach damage, they
tend to overheat.
N connectors are named such, N being short for NUTS connector being
trying to assemble one will make you koo koo and yell NUTS!
The BNC is a Better Nuts Connector, being smaller it will REALLY drive
you nuts.
The PL and SO designations are military used throught and aren't limited
to RF components. Those big Amphenol multi contact ones used on the
familiar military surplus gear are also designated PL and SO in keeping
with the numerical sequence. These ESPECIALLY will drive you NUTS.
The only cure for NUTS is a strip gauge and above all, if all else fails
read the instructions.
BTW, I have seen all sorts of abortions passing for PL-259s wired up by
CBers. God only knows what would happen if CB sets came with BNCs...
