Hello out there!
In Germany / Austria we had a word to remember the switch
positions. It was  EIN OHR  English: one ear. That would not
give any info of course for the English.

 EIN stands for ON.
 O          for OBEN    ( up )
 H          for HINTEN  ( back )
 R          for RECHTS  ( to the right )

Very easy to remember.
