Hello Ian and methane breathers,
I won't flame you but I WILL flame that drink of yours. You mentioned
methylated spirits known to the chemist as methanol. (go back to high
school, hi) It readily floats on water, being a light oil and will burn
off. It doesn't readily mix, although it will when forced, unlike ethanol
known as drinking alcohol. Stratification is a confusing subject at best
because while some liquids naturally stratify like oil on water, most do
not and will do so only under carefully controlled conditions, and when
left on thier own will disperse. Oh, you didn't mention that stratified
pub drink, whatever it's called. It too will disperse if left to stand or
disturbed. You simply can't drink it without getting the bottom layers
mixed up.
As for the cow farts, I'm wondering why the Greenies haven't fitted the
cows with afterburners. If they were REALLY all that concerned they would
fit them with exhaust pipes connected to a cogen plant and make
electricity.
On a serious note about those Greenies, why don't they get after the
large American chemical companies who continue to manufacture banned
materials and sell them to underdeveloped nations? Dupont continues to
manufacture Freon TE and TF for use as degreasers unabated. We can no
longer use it in the electronics industry as a flux remover in the once
widely used vapor degreaser, and we can no longer use triccoretheline
1.1.1 and carbon tetrachloride is out of the question. Removing rosin
flux from a PCB using methanol is a royal pain and it's quite toxic. It's
a crazy world and the pollies are off in the ozone!
