If hot air rises, how do you keep from floating away? (;->)
Edison DID invent the balloon, but he made two mistakes. He made the
envelope from glass, rather heavy material. Then he "filled" it with
vacuum, much heavier than air. If the vacuum cleaner was invented a bit
earlier, he would have realized why they don't fly away. Well, MINE does
because it's been modified to burn Jet A and makes an efficient flying
machine. See my ocasional bull to WITCH. Anyway, ol'Tom tried to recoup
his loss by putting a carbon filament in there and called it a light bulb
because it gave light. That was also a face saving measure, the original
light bulb turned out to be a heavy bulb.
OK, let me nit pick and point out your error. You said you don't need to
put the less dense gas in anything. Well, two problems with this. If you
don't put the less dense gas in anything it will float away by itself and
leave you on the ground, bye bye.
The other is if hot air isn't the less dense gas, what is it?
Thanks for kindly provide the ammunition to take pot shots at you, hope
you have a sense of humor...
Seriously and a bit obtusely (like my head) if thermals were cold rather
than warm they would provide more lift. Ask any pilot who has hit a
pocket and fallen like a stone until he was out of it. Both the wings and
propeller loose "lift" and the plane stalls. The reason a glider or bird
soars on one is because they travel upward and they soar on the draught.
Maybe I should reprint my old tag line here since it rather fits in
sideways. If you want to soar with the eagles, don't run with the turkeys.
Just to throw in some more nonsense (factual) not only havent turkeys
figured out what the eagles know about thermals, farm turkeys are
MUTANTS. Wild turkeys are crafty to avoid predators and fly rather well.
Farm turkeys are bred for meat and are too fat to fly. Not only that,
they have no parents to teach them anything so they never learned and are
just plain stupid.
Time to fly out of here on my hot air balloon if I can find Meowth and
the rest of Team Rocket...
