Not here they don't..........
With few exceptions, a light bulb pushes and turns (BC Bayonet Cap) into
a lampholder. Perhaps the historical reasoning behind this in the UK is
that BC allows two contacts to be used on the base of the lamp. These
are a similar system to that used in car (auto) bulbs.
Screw in types only allow only one contact and require that the thread
part be connected to the mains. A simple error in the wiring and the
screw base then becomes live. There are some screw in types in use, but
UK regualtions require that the metal thread of the lampholder has to be
provided with an insulating shroud around the outside to prevent finger
contact.
In the UK the brass bayonet cap at the lampholder is usually entirely
insulated (ceiling flex drops), or if a metal fitting is used the holder
is earthed.
In the UK wall outlets are most popularly called 'socket outlets',
'plugs', and sometimes even 'wall outlets'.
