Hi Ian And The Lamplighters,
Just to torture you I started with a sideways reference to a once popular
vocal group. Now Liza Dolittle, try this, the rain in Spain falls mainly
on the plain. While that song is buzzing your brain, I dump DOCTOR
Dolittle on you and now you are plagued with Talk To The Animals. In an
episode of The Simpsons, that tomato/potato thing drove C.M. Burns to an
asylum, watch yourself, he he.
The trunk was carried over from the horse and carriage to the motorcar
quite literally. Early automobiles literally had a steel trunk on back
and toolbox bolted to the running board on the driver's side and tools
were supplied with the car. Not too reliable those things, I'll stick
with my horse rather than have people shout "get a horse" as I labor by
the roadside.
OK, let's get a little arguement going here. To get Edison vs Swann out
of the way, they were among several paralell inventors who invented the
incandescent BULB! Edison patented his first and won worldwide fame,
except in the UK which is still struggling with the question of which is
better, vacuum or inert gas.
Acording to all historical records here and abroad (again with the
possible exception of the UK) TESLA invented the flourescent lamp! It
looked nothing like todays tubes, more like one of Edison's early
versions, a globe with a tube stuck to the side of it. If you want a
picture, send an e-mail request and I'll reply with the picture. BTW,
please remind me of this message, someone didn't and I had no idea what
he was talking about.
Like I mentioned in another bull, I better go soak my head, my brain cell
is boiling...
