If said object is lighter than the displaced mass, it will float.

Example: a ship will float higher in salt water. Same ship, but the weight
of the displaced liquid changed and therefore the upward force.

Same here. It would take some calculation but if you could evacuate a
rigid airship, such as 'Hindenburg', it would suffer an upward force 
identical to the mass of the displaced air. If that would be enough?
YOU do the math............but the principle stands!
