Hello all,
In the US they're correctly called photo lamps, and sometimes flash
lamps. We commonly called them flashbulbs until they were replaced by
photographic strobe lamps, commonly called strobes.
Ah, the old Kodak Speed Graphic, favorite of the news photographer, noted
for it's exceptionally sharp and clear images. The lamps from those
looked exactly like the ordinary 25 watt light bulb, right down to the
standard screw base. When his parents were at the picture show, my friend
and I replaced every lamp in the house with them. It was a laugh riot
when his parents returned, as we watched them pop off from a safe
distance.
