Hello Henry and all,
Don't know what your problem is with the flourescents, never had a
problem with them in the US. Can't say "made in USA" is any better,
hasn't been a lamp factory around here in many years. Oh, they have an
American major brand, but say "made in China", "made in mexico"
and some even have Japanese characters on them.
Could it be you have lousy ballasts? I have seen lamps fail to light
properly and burn out prematurely, changing the ballast is a quick and
easy fix.
One thing they absolutely hate is low temperatures. Below about 50F they
go dim and flicker. The high intensity ones used outdoors work a bit
better, but below about 35F they poop out too.
Around here we say "never look a gift horse in the mouth" and the Chinese
version is "never even politely refuse a gift". (Because it causes the
giver to loose face.) My favorite is "when someone says trust me, DON'T".
