I think it was last year but it may have been longer back than then.
There were packet messages about keyboards and I recall Andy writing
that one could do no better than obtain an IBM keyboard as they were
smooth, well made and reliable.
When I spotted a couple of black IBM KBs being offered on eBay, brand
new and boxed, I couldn't resist especially as they were pennies plus
postage.
When they arrived, I took a quick look at them both then stored them
away along with all the other stuff that I have bought over the years
but forgotten that I have. It surprises me when I buy something and my
wife says, "what do you want or need another of those for? You've got
three already, in the loft"!
A couple of days ago while trying to swat a fly, I knocked a glass of
water over, spilling it all over my "Genius" keyboard. We turned it
over and shook the water out and dabbed it with a towel. It seemed to
work okay.
Today I noticed that it was missing letters that I had pressed buttons
for and I had to press extra hard to get those letters to work.
"That's it" I thought, "time to break out a new IBM" and I shouted for
my wife to find one for me.
I am using it now and it is much quieter and feels great. I have even
downloaded a list of shortcuts for the IBM. The only thing I miss is
the 'sleep' button but I have assigned my pc to switch off when I press
the power button on the front of my tower case. A light touch anywhere on
the IBM keyboard (I usually use the space bar) and everything wakes up
again.
So I am happy again and a big "THANKS" to Andy for his recommendation.
