Gordon, don't be afraid for malware direct from i-net. The malware that
direct infects only by being connected only can infect systems with W2000,
W2K and up as was stated in reports from Panda.
The malware is to new for your 'old' machine....
I am using on this old machine (Pentium 150 MHz) a virus scanner and
Ad-Aware, op. system is W98SE.
I found some memory cards to expand memory to 65Mb, without such a memory
the free scanners could not work properly. (AntiVir and AVG, versions 7).
As with AntiVir the system locks up while running more than 2 programs and
i-net, I switched to AVG. A pitty that this prg uses a separate e-mail
scanner that starts up at receiving e-mail, receives it, scans it and than
forwards it to the in-box of outlook express, so it takes more than double
the time than AntiVir does....
Yes, this machine was for free, enough for my limited i-net use.
And, virusses....the last type received here was Netsky P, more than a year
ago, sometimes 20 in a week, but since than no virusses.
