IN my small city there are two churches right across the street from each
other. One already had a radio mike system, and t'other put in a similar
system ready for the next Sunday. This was some years ago when such
devices were in the 30 meg band. That Sunday the priest in the Anglican
Church (male) lifted the offerings at the altar and out of the PA system
came a female voice, also receiving the offerings in the church over the
road. Consternation in the Anglican Church at the change in their male
priest's voice. It turned out that both radio mikes used the same
frequency but that while the Anglican priest was in the front of the
chancel the signal from his mike was enough to shut out the one from over
the road. However when he walked up to the altar at the back of the
chancel his signal dropped and the signal from the church opposite took
over and the lady minister over the road had her say.
Frequencies in the church over the road were changed for the next Sunday!
In another church where I was organist way back in the 50s taxis used AM
(Pye Reporters - remember them?). They made a habit of stopping on the
corner outside the church to call base and their call used to come through
the PA in the church. Another church had a talking electronic organ. An
amateur near the church found he had to go off air during service time as
he came through on the organ - 1950s again. You can't work DX on an organ!
