So here is MY BLOG
I got my Technician-class license after I went to college and got my Electrical Engineering degree.
I had recently gone to work at one of those "new" fiber optic-based telecommuncations companies in 2000. My boss was a ham (as was my dad) and he said one day a week of two before the local hamfest, "by the way, you're gonna go take your ham exam Saturday morning." Fun stuff !! The rest is history...

NO CW
Much to dad's chagrin, I didn't master the code as a Middle School student.
I had always liked the spring-loaded Radio Shack electronics kits. Still do. But I pursued model rockets and SWLing in high school as opposed to amateur radio.

APRS
APRS was the first mode I was really interested in. N5TEX was my mentor / elmer and we both still enjoy the mode.

PACKET
I've been active on packet for about 3 years now.

ACTIVITY
I enjoy ham radio most when I'm not in the shack. I hate to shut myself off from the family.
I've had a collection of HTs over the years.
I've got a 817 for HF operation.
My favorite rigs were a FT-290 and a TS-700SP, which I've since sold but would probably buy again.
Does anyone have ICOM "bookend" VHF rigs they don't want anymore ?
I was active with the FM repeater satellites in the early 2000s using an Arrow Antenna the duplex TH-D7 HT. I've made contacts into Alaska, PEI, Canada and Jamacia. Juggling a Palm Pilot and a tape recorder along with the radio and antenna was an adventure. Taught organization and timeliness. Hard to make an appointment with a satellite now with a wife and son ;)

DX
I'm not a big DXer. I've got my HF antenna optimized for NVIS propagation to support experimenting with area Hams. We've been messing around some obscure modes found in FLDIGI as well as with WINMOR.

ACTIVITIES
I'm a hopeless space nerd and I like collecting antique computers.
My favorite bands are probably VHF. The QTH doesn't have the best LOS, so I usually play radio while travelling. I'm developing an interest in QRP. KC5JKU and I travelled to Capulin Volcano, New Mexico once to operate stations that were participating in the Colorado 14ers Radio Event. That was A LOT of FUN. I like to HTs on vacation and business trips for work.

BALLOONS
I've helped the area university (Oklahoma State University) recover student high-altitude balloon projects. I'd like to try my hand at my own balloon. I've got a Heathkit Two'er in the queue for restoration. I'd like to get some classic VHF gear.

ORGANIZATIONS
I've been involved with all the Tulsa-area (OK) clubs over the last 15 years.
Google Tulsa Digital Radio Club.
