Hi Frank
No need - Linux comes equiped with lots of tools - just open a terminal screen (from Accessories) and type the word telnet and press enter.

I've not been a Winpak user in some years now but telnet is definately part of the Linux distribuation.

After you typed telnet and pressed enter - you see the change at the comment line to the following to show its changed to telnoet mode.
telnet>
Linux is'nt a show-off

If you then type help (& press enter)
you get the following (ignore my computer info)

telnet
davekh@deepthought:~/xarpm_plus_alpha$ telnet
telnet> help
Commands may be abbreviated. Commands are:

close close current connection
logout forcibly logout remote user and close the connection
display display operating parameters
mode try to enter line or character mode ('mode ?' for more)
open connect to a site
quit exit telnet
send transmit special characters ('send ?' for more)
set set operating parameters ('set ?' for more)
unset unset operating parameters ('unset ?' for more)
status print status information
toggle toggle operating parameters ('toggle ?' for more)
slc set treatment of special characters

z suspend telnet
environ change environment variables ('environ ?' for more)
telnet>

Also you can slogin to other computer in the same way ..

try slogin sdf.org

The used to give permenant accounts to amateur radio ops.

Hope this helps
