Hi Frank,
why did you say about the missing telnet in 'ubuntu' distribution?
Any unix/linux platform own that mode; so I guess you're using a desktop
version of ubuntu, and then here's how:
click on Applications and then select Accessories and then Terminal.
The terminal is similar to that of Windows (the one that is called
command prompt), hence the following command:
telnet i0ojj.dyndns.org
