Hi Gordon VK3XX @ VK3API.#MEL.VIC.AUS.OC,
There is a very helpfull TS520/530/820/830 user group available
@yahoogroups.com
I have seen reports of similar problems & there are typical components
that fail (faint burnt smell) & deprive the transmitter of drive.
Often there are reports of the cathode resistors changting in value as
they act like fuses to save the 6146 tubes.
Some users have trouble with the bandswitch rivets becoming a source of
open circuit causing a loss of drive on one or more bands at a time.
I'm sure you can get much useful help from that source. Several members
are service people who fix these old radios all the time for other
Amateurs (less skilled or with poor eyes etc).
I sold the TS830S I owned to get a radio with a general coverage RX. It
was a radio I enjoyed having. Previously I owned a TS520S.
