Yes scrap BT as your adsl provider and join plusnet
they will provide you with a static ip address and it can probably cost
you less than you pay BT for their dynamic ip address system..
http://www.plus.net/?home=hometop
go to that link, have a look at the packages and see what would suit you
best, Ok plusnet are not the best adsl company out there, but they offer
static ip addresses and when you run any sort of a system where people
need to be able to log in to your system then a static ip address solves
a lot of the problems that you are seeing with BT.
I have 2 adsl accounts, 8meg adsl with plusnet / static ip address for
the bbs, it's on 99.9% of the time, sometimes its a bit slow, but its
always on.
I also have a BT 8mb adsl account that I use for my own adsl access,
simply because I want to keep my adsl activity away from the bbs, it
just keeps my data safe / away from the bbs.
compared to Plusnet the bt account suffers with the ip address
changing, but only now and again and as this system dosent allow dial in
connects to it, it simply dosent matter,
the plusnet account ip address never changes, sometimes its a bit slow
compared to the bt account, BUT its more reliable than the BT account
and I get virtualy zero complaints from other sysops / users about the
speed of the system.
With the BT system I see regular slow downs and sometimes the service
stops completly for 20 - 30 mins at a time. never happens with the
plusnet account.
BT account costs me 26.99/month with a dynamic address.
plus net costs 24.99/month with a static ip address
get away from BT and get a static ip address and solve your problems the
easy way..
