Hello especially OM Dick

Cataracts , a regular , common op and done in
"Day-Hospitals" here.
Basically I can echo Bobs comments here.
As with all operations there are risks. Youll be sedated by
a specialist probably and there are some injections done
(under full narkosis-shorttime) for these. These arrest any
eye movement. 20 to 30 minutes the whole procedure, but some
preparation time and afterwards some tea - probably all
maybe 3 hors together. There can be some complications like
Lasering away some suture which will be holding back the
iris or such and afterwards there can be some small stuff
left from the operation which - in your eye look - quite
big, and this can even invole a second quite longer
operation. Recuperation to some good sight might take a
couple of days, some have full sight next morning.
Anyway its worthwile because it doesnt get better , more
likely worse.
80 years and older...Bob answered that. And if preliminary
measurement is done right, your focus at infinity is ok and
youll need for close up - reading -some glasses.
And to make shure 1 (one) eye at a time, the worst first.

Youll have a brighter future ahead, don't hesitate !
And likewise , I can't imagine what the "temporary" surgery
has been for ?

Look for a specialising hospital - operational affair. They
do it lots of time nowadays, There is specialised equipment
to break up the old (natural lens) with ultrasound and
aeration which also can take care when the lens capsule
breaks. There is only done a small incision (stab-wound)
thru which it is done and afterwards a plastic ( perspex -
little chance of antibody reaction) lens popped in.

Our Hospital had some nice brochures about the whole
procedure. Youll probably need someone to drive you there
and back. Drive you there next day. Youll be given some
little bottles of eye drops and every 2 and 3 hours in they
go, the drops. All forgotten in a few weeks.

We even have a train-based mobile hospital which goes around
the country in the farther away places to give the public
there free operations.

Thats the procedure here in South Africa.
