Dick, change your eye specialist pronto.I can't think what the temporary
surgery could have been. I got a slightly black eye with the complete
operation but it was gone in a day or two replaced by perfect sight in
that eye.I was 80 at the time.
A few years ago I was conscious that I was slowly losing my sight. Finally
I got to the stage where cars coming my way on the road were looming up
out of the gloom and I was told by my doctor that if I did not have
something done about my cataracts I would not be driving by Xmas. I was
referred to an eye specialist who did a cataract removal and lens implant
on both eyes a few months apart. I have just had a test by a specialist on
both eyes fter a few years and both are 6/6. I can read the bottom line on
the chart with each eye. They are as good as when I was 18.
The actual operation took about 20 minutes in hospital under local
anaesthetic and I was home again after lunch (provided by the hospital
after the operation). The bandage was removed the next morning and I had
perfect vision in the eye done each time. I was warned that there is an
element of risk and so they do one eye at a time just in case. However the
operation is being done in my location as a matter of routine on those to
over 80 years of age. It is very common.
I am approaching 85 so there's your answer. Don't hesitate. Get it done
but make sure you get a specialist with more confidence than the one you
seem to have now.
And by the way I can read the morning paper without glasses!!
Cheers,
Bob VK6BE.
