Yep. Unfortunatly the 706 handbook gives the impression that the rear
AUX socket and the RJ45 AF input is the same thing. It's not. The rear aux
socket seems to give MUCH less noise upon the transmitted signal than
the RJ45 mic input despite ensuring that no in line speech processor is
in use and all that.

And once again the use of an isolating transformer is a very good idea.

In my case I found in my junk box a 240v to 9v transformer and used
that for a laugh which worked a treat.
