In reply to G0TEZ's comments, Mel G4WYW replied "Nil desperandum Ian,
Honi soit qui mal y pence"...
I suggest "Nil Carborundum" .. "don't let the blighters grind you down!"
Yes, you often get wise-guy replies when calling for help, but a lot of
good, clear helpful ones as well.
I recently rescued an old cooker because someone educated me about damp
getting into the elements, and how to cure them.
Sometimes a search does not reveal the required information because we
use the wrong word (e.g. spanner instead of wrench). A neighbour has just
told me the term sash applies to many types of window, not just those with
cords as I had thought. I well remember the story of a french woman who
knew what she wanted from the supermarket, but did not know the word for
it, and described it as "a chicken husband, not quite!". In short she
wanted a capon.
So ask on! I do! And remember to put someting back into the pot if
you can :)
