Rob, DHCP translation logging still gives point of origin! Dynamic ip's
are masked to the server Ip. Its just a way to filter those who are abusive
is all. The other server users may loose out oh well! Such is life on the
gateways eh? Remember there is always reverse hop check translation.

There are certainly many ways to filter ampr only logins, permission
restrictions ect. Its just a start and fair way warning to all. We all have to
start somewhere ya know. Thanks for the input.

DHCP translation logging? Please explain?

DHCP is *not* involved in the typical PPP dialup (with dynamic IP).

How are you doing the masking? It is difficult/impossible to know how far
a subnet extends knowing only the IP address.

reverse hop check translation? You mean traceroute? Used to work fine,
but is crumbling because of the filtering that many ISPs are installing,
and the lack of reverse DNS entries (partly because of the way IP addresses
are assigned now) isn't helping either.

Rob

"... good amateur practices ..." involve using radio.
What modes and frequencies are you on?
