Bob Lewis wrote that the "tail" built in to the Tx/Rx changeover was to
hold the squelch at the receiving end. I feel that this is not of too
great validity as it is only " putting off the evil moment" by 1 to 2
seconds and this would require very nifty action by the distant op to
avoid a few junk characters from arriving. Many stations take up to 5
secs or more to reply. In any case, whereas squelch is fine on VHF/UHF
channels, it is of little use on H.F unless one has condx of low
noise/high signal/ minimal QSB etc.

Hi all, I was recently advised by one of the WinLink2000 system
operators that WinLink2000 requires AirMail2000 in order to work.

Only the older WinLink system that is no longer in use could use BBS
commands.
Sorry for the confusion.

Ref Airmail2000 - information can be found by
http://www.airmail2000.com
There are several stations still running WinLink 3.0 which allows for
BBS commands. However,. For a list of these stations use
http://members.lcia.com/n0zo stations using both WL2K and WinLink
3.0 software are clearly indicated.

Bullshit!
Ham radio is whatever you want to experiment with, that involves a
radio.
It might be an Autopatch, an Internet, or a Part-15 Spread Spectrum
LAN, or even another radio link; but, the Ham radio at each end makes
it all Ham radio.
Anyone who says different is a filthy bastard.
