Subject: ?Calculator Packet?

Anyone ever thought of using one of those TI calculators for packet such as
the TI 83 or 85? They have a small data connection on them and are small,
lightweight and easy to use. If you can play games on them, why can't you
do packet? Just a thought.

Subject: Getting back into packet -- need info please

Hi,

I dropped out of packet radio in the late 1980's, and have been thinking
about getting up and running again.

I live in Manhattan, but I have a weekend house in Sullivan
County, NY -- where I can erect antennas and play all I want (;-)

I've been searching the web for info to get back up to speed, but all I see
is continued reference to 1200bps traffic and 9600bps backbones.

Has there been any progress?

My second questions is: I found NEDA's map and a couple of other maps of
nodes, but I see nothing in my area. I was hoping to link my residences,
but it's a bit over line-of-sight (about 100 miles with mountains in
between). How can I find out what nodes are around me, and, is there fast
traffic (56K, perhaps).

I hear some traffic on 145.73 & 144.39, but that's it.

It's a little surprising that we're stuck at low speed -- I own an ISP,
where
we deal with DSL lines up to 7mbps down by 1mbps up.

Thanks very much for your help,

Joseph R. Skoler, kc2yu

Nothing affordable.

Here's your chance to design and contribute something better...

If I was an engineer and had the time, I'd love to do that.

Unfortunately, off the shelf, mild soldering, etc. is my limit.

You have dropped out before the rush towards something usable, and now you
are too late because it has collapsed in the meantime...
