A proper job requires some extra circuitry to cross-connect the DCD and
RTS signals internally between the TNCs, so each TNC does not transmit when
the other is already transmitting, or when the other has DCD on.

Of course, if there is a probability this might happen.
In the case of KG7LX, there is very little probability that there
will be two connections at the same time ... so the simple setup
works ok, and avoids the problem of modifying the TNCs.
So for trying this out, just hook the wires together and give a try.
The solution Rob suggests can also be done in the node software.

Mike,
Let see if I get this right,
You read a newsgroup.
You do not agree with the author.
Next you send unsolicgted and univited suggestions to the author of the
post.
He proably never reads your post because it is buried so far down the
newsgroup, and those who do wonder who died and left you in charge of
morality and protocol.
I would suggest ti you.
1. Log off your ISP.
2. Shut off your computer.
3. Get a life.
Why, because everyone has a right to bitch (including you) about whatever
they want without having to endure soemone else telling them how wrong they
are for doing so.
and to quote you:
"The terms You used and the way you dealt this matter are far more unsavory
then any response you could possibly have recieved."

You sound like Bruce Perrins. You are really full of yourself, aren't
you.
If you can't get on HF, then you have no idea what is down there.
Worldwide communication is down there.
Your precious Digial is ALIVE AND WELL on HF in many modes.
Try to work an emergency rescue in the Pacific with your precious
UHF/VHF. I dare you. When you have accomplished that, come back and
bemoan the use of HF some more.
Until then, go away and work your short range little digital world to
death. When you get bored, upgrade and do 'real' radio. HF!

P.S. Don't bother responding. Whiny little twits are routinely
ignored after the first whine. You have already used up your
allotment.
