Subject: list of packet sites in Seattle
In case you're looking just for the "WestNet" affiliated packet BBS's, the
list
(for the western United States) may currently be found at
http://www.qsl.net/scdcc/westnet.txt. (It may move to a sub-directory in the
near future.)

Subject: MT63 - new version?
Hi,
I've been trying for some days to update my copy of IZ8BLY's MT63
soundcard program but cannot raise Nino's site. As my version of his
program has time-expired I'm off-air! Could someone give me a pointer to
any other site where I might find it or even e-mail me a copy?
TIA,
Roger Basford, G3VKM

I think RST on PSK is useless and do not use it. Nor do I know what it
means when I recieve it. As said before, that great meter reading is
most likely do to the big gun in Texas 150 Hz down the band!
Hey, new mode, new ideas! % copy makes sense, or just saying your sigs
are FB. Why be so formal?
If some of us stop using RST maybe it will catch on!

Subject: PKS31 SIGNAL REPORTS
The standard measurements for cellular/PCS digital wireless data is Bit
Error Rate (BER) and relative signal strength indicator (RSSI). A
cellular/PCS mobile test set provides this information for digital calls. As
the RSSI drops and BER increases the call quality drops ( i.e. ones voice
sounds like talking through a bucket of water ).
Maybe SW developers could measure the BER and display it, then a one could
give this data in the signal report. The Old S-Meter redefined as a RSSI
meter, which it really is any way since S-9 is loosely calibrated by RX
manufactures at 100 uV of signal injected into the antenna port with no
signal preamplifier active.
The RST system applies to CW and was developed for "ear-ball" analysis. Read
the ARRL handbook as to what information the RST is defined to provide. It
roots come from the days when radios did not have S-Meters and well filtered
power supplies.
The system is basically out-of-date for Digital as you have pointed out. But
changing it, will be hard due to it be a basic element of Ham radio
tradition.

Subject: winaprs lite not displaying contacts
I've recently downloaded winaprs lite, and it seems to be working as it
should, except that contacts that are displaying in the station or position
list, are not appearing on the US map that I'm using. 3 out of the 28
contacts are showing up, but only those.
I've not yet registered the product. Is this a limitation of the
unregistered version or is something else amiss?
thanks
