Thanks for the replies. It took 45 minutes, but it finally figured out

My audio DSP does help quite a bit, especially in crowded conditions.
Even though the rig AGC does cut back the rigs gain with a loud
station, using the DSP lets me turn up the rig volume (to hear the weak
station) and then I can filter out the loud station, still copying the
weaker one.
As I can do this in an audio DSP I think it could be done within the
sound card thus eliminating a piece of equipment. It is not THE
solution but one I think would help many of us who cannot do anything
on the rig side. I am looking to see if I can turn off my AGC in the
rig.

PSK31 implementations use matched filtering, the standard way of
making a filter that provides the maximum response to the signal
you want. If you get decent input to the software it will do
its job (optimally in theory, and very well in practice). If
the radio messes up the incoming audio there is little the
software can do about it. GIGO!
Some PSK31 implementations come with source code. Have a look.

That list is several years out of date.
Note the entry for WLINN:W0RLI-1, which went off air nearly three
years ago when I moved from West Linn to Sherwood. It is now
PARETB:W0RLI-5 and is on 144.91 here on Parrett Mt.
(Although I'm in Oregon, half my coverage area is in S. Washington state).
