all the decent servers. You can't touch that with DSL unless you spend
a fortune.

Ah, that would not be allowed here... or at least not as the only option.
So, we get the line from KPN Telecom and the Internet access from a company
that has a contract with them.

In the past we had a single company providing all the telco services, but
then we were told that this was not good because there ought to be
competition, and that everything had to be complicated with provisions
for interconnection, carrier selection, multiple ISP choice etc. to allow
that. We were told that this was the American way, and that the European
Union wanted us to have it the same way.

Don't tell us they are coming back from it over there...

We've dispensed with history, and all the old companies (like
the Big Bang theory) are collapsing back inward.

Only Microsoft (who has no offices in Washington D.C.)
seems to be spinning out of orbit...

Capitalism sucks, but then there is no real alternative.

The Madisonville, TX TV cable company doesn't even know what
an ISP is. :-) SWBell offers DSL for $40 a month with free
modem and installation.

It's probably old infrastructure, not even compatible with
modern data transport.

I bought into the digital cable last year. I haven't had
cable since 1975 when "Dialing For Dollars" was big
out of San Francisco (Go Janis!).

Alas, I don't get it?

When I first had cable, it was $8 a month, and the advantage
was, that there was no commercials (well, except for the
affiliates carried on the cable). Jesus, what a mess it is now.
I find myself channel changing through a hundred channels
now, trying to find something other than a commercial.

I find myself watching the Health Channel, as I find the
surgery procedures quite interesting, but just as they get
to removing the spleen they break for a commercial.

Then I toggle around and everyone is on a commercial
at the same time. Shit, no wonder Internet is fast passing
Television as a pastime...

I really want to finish my link to my ISP with another
Wireless hop. This will be 1.6 Mbps and the one link
I have now is absolutely wonderful. Sure 11 Mbps
would be nice, but Lucent can kiss my ass on their
prices. I definitely ain't giving Cox cable any more
money.
