Just a follow-up...

Good news:

The Netpliance i-Opener at Circuit City is $99 + tax. No other charges.

Bad news:

I'm number 12 on the local back-order list, and even San Francisco
doesn't have any for the last couple of weeks.

And Netpliance is now forcing you to get the service, so by the time
they are available at Circuit City you will most likely be asked to sign
a contract before you can have it.

Of course this could be expected, and it is their rightful thing to do. It
is a device that is sold below cost to use with a service that is supposed
to bring them the revenue. When everyone buys it without the service they
will soon be out of business.

Netpliance also stated that they will modify the newly produced units so
that the published modification is no longer possible. How they will do
that is unclear, but it seems most likely that the IDE interface will go.

Yes. The archive
 ftp://ftp.ucsd.edu/hamradio/packet/tcpip/nosview/nosvw304.zip
contains a version of KA9Q NOS for DOS along with a packet driver for BayCom,
which I have used since 1994.

The Tigertronics website has
  http://www.tigertronics.com/files/jnos_bay.zip
but I haven't tried it.

Subject: Digipan Com port configure problem

I'm trying unsuccessfully to set the serial port in Digipan for
PSK31. My modem is Com 3. After opening up the CPU and tracing
cables from the mother board, the mouse seems to be on COM 2 and
Com 1 is an unused 25-pin connector. To try to verify the mouse
port number I looked at Mouse and the Device Manager in the
System properties in the control panel but neither tells which
port the mouse is connected to. W98 and Norton System Info don't
either.

Com 1 gives the "Error opening Com1" when I attempt to configure
the port. Ports 2 and 4 do the same. Port 3 doesn't, but I'm
sure that's the modem - at least according to Modem in the
Control Panel and the DUN setting.

The MB is an Asus VX97.

It doesn't matter if the PSK interface is plugged into the port
or not.

I am just setting up to try PSK31 for the first time, so this is
not something that was working earlier.

Any suggestions?

TIA

Here's my thinking on this. The FCC is a government office. They
use tax dollars to operate with. We also need Volunteer Examiners
to test all the classes, and charge a fee each time.

How can we have more classes and reduce government cost?
Why should all Americans subsidize Ham radio? What do they get?
