Subject: PSK-31 - Getting Started

Hello all...I'm interested in setting up for PSK31 operation and have a few
questions:

I plan to use software that will let me use my sound card but need a
cable/interface to go between the two.
Can someone reccomend the needed hardware or kit? My rig is an IC-725 and I
have a soundblaster in my PC.

Thanks,

Chuck,

I have RCA plugs on the back of my TenTec Omni 6+ for audio out and audio
in. So it is just a couple of audio cables from the out to the in of the PC
and from the out of the PC to the in of the Omni. Pretty simple hook up,
but I don't know what type of connectors are on the back of your Icom.

The IC-725 has an 8-pin DIN connector for the ACC(1) socket, probably
available at Radio Shack. It has +12, gnd, audio-out, audio-in, PTT,
and squelch.

Thanks for your info.

Am wondering, if you can use it as a *piano* without
the multi-instrument feature.

In case you didn't notice: the fact that most nodes don't route TCP/IP is
politically motivated, not technically.
Of course it would be simpler to make an autorouter based on IP routing
than one on AX.25 callsign routing. You would have to convince the users
to use standard Internet software instead of dedicated packet programs,
and/or provide a way of tunneling oldfashioned AX.25 sessions in TCP/IP
sessions. But the packet node software developers chose to do it the
other way around. That is why setting up a TCP/IP-based packet station
is not the simplest of the two options, and it means it is less used.

It's not political, or technical.

What would you do with a routed IP network over radio if it
was given to you on a silver platter?

Probably post for-sale, and out-of-band mods...

I've yet to see a serious application proposed for TCP/IP, ROSE,
or UI frames for that matter; except, maybe APRS beacons.

There has to be more reason than: "it's fun" or else the network
