Subject: Interface PTT to Kenwood TS-940
I am trying to build an interface to my Kenwood TS940 using its 13-Pin
ACC(2) connector. This connector has two pins of interest: pin 9 - MIC mute
and pin 13 - Stand By. Grounding Mic mute mutes the input from the mic
connector. Unlike newer Kenwood radios, grounding this pin does not cause
the radio to go into transmit. So it seems that the solution would be to
ground both Mic mute and Stand By. However, if you just jumper the two pins
together, Mic mute will be activate when you use the mic's PTT or the front
panel Send button as the Stand By pin goes to ground. Thus you can't
transmit via the mic when the interface is connected. I've currently solved
this by using a switch to short or open the connection between Stand By and
Mic Mute. It seems to me that there should be some automatic was of doing
this, i.e. with diodes or transistors. It should work so that when Mic Mute
goes to ground, Stand by does also, but when Stand by goes to ground, Mic
Mute doesn't. I'd prefer a solution that doesn't require any power as there
is no power available on the ACC(2) connector.
