These files are shareware and look and operate identical to the software
sold for the MFJ1278b by MFJ.
The program name is Skyrider.

Subject: THD7a+GPS options?

Cathryn,
I recently started playing with packet to begin learning how to use
it. I have a Kenwood TH D7a and a Palm Pilot 3E. I use the Palm Pilot
at the computer hooked directly to the radio. You will need to
download a VT100 type terminal program for it(Palm Pilot) and you will
need either a modem cable which is now difficult to get or a serial
cable with a null modem connector to fit between the serial cable and
the cable that came with the PG 4W cable and software package from
Kenwood. I have tried a very nice shareware program from
www.markspace.com called Online for the VT100 software. Also be very
careful which GPS unit you get. Some of them won't work with the TH
D7A. The output needs to be in the NMEA format. You can search the web
for a web site that will tell you which GPS units that are compatable.
If you have anymore questions get back to me.

Apparently there is a lot less stuff available on the US market than over
here in Europe. We can buy assembled SCC cards, accompanying modems,
SCC cards with modems on them, separate modems connected to serial or
parallel port, etc. And soundcards, of course.

In the past there was a company named DRSI that sold such things in the US,
but apparently the US amateur prefers a hot and noisy box over a PC card.
(this was in the days of the AEA PK-87 and PK-88, aka "the furnace")

These are all to be preferred over any TNC.

Does anybody in the U.S. sell SCC cards? Imported even?

Tried putting an 'r' after the 'elekt'?

I hope your German really is good enough...
