I have always just used a std mac din to RS-232 25 pin modem cable.
The modem cable grounds one leg of the Mac's RS-422 to make it RS-232.
You only need to make a cable for the TTL level GPS units that are not RS-232

Brian,
Connect via 2m packet to ancbbs (145.01) or (147.96). That is the main
packet hub for alaska and is there in Anchorage.
Might look for phone number of Doug Dickinson (kl7ikx) also.
