Subject: APRS sid's
Ok...Im pretty confused about the SIDs being used in APRS. I run a
very high profile node here in Ohio, and everybody keeps giving me
advise about my alias(s), my unproto paths, and my SIDs.
I would like information/opinions on how the structure *should* be.
Here is what Im running;
My only alias is "wide" (no "relay")
My unproto path is "wide,wide"
My SID is "-4"
The SIDs are my main issue...I have people telling me to run -2, -4,
-7, -10, -14, -15, ect. I also see all these other being used...is
there a standard, or not?
Thanks much, & 73.

Subject: DSP modem implementation
Can anyone recommend a good reference for implementing modems DSP? I am a
computer programmer and have a good understanding of algebra and took
calculus in college, but would prefer a discussion that doesn't require a
lot of higher mathematics. I've read the DSP theory section in the ARRL
Handbook and its a good start, but doesn't give a lot of specifics. I'm not
looking for a specific DSP chip, although I just purchased a JPS NIR12 and
SDK12 which is based on the TI TMS320C2X. I've downloaded some of the
manuals for this chip from the TI web site.
I'm particularly interested in implementing modems for modes like SSTV,
PSK31, RTTY, etc. I already have software that does it, but I'd like to try
'rolling my own'. I think that DSP programming of new modes may be the
hombrewing of the 21st century.

There are stations in Texas. For packet, I work NT5K-1 on a regular basis.
There are about three stations that I mysteriously can work all hours of the
night/day, and NT5K is one of them. His station is on 14105 MHz. I am not
sure of a route to use from the UK. The 'NET 105' network on 14105 is highly
organized. I am sure you could link to NT5K-1 from a station on the eastern
coast of the USA. I have enclosed the NET 105 operators guide below.
For pactor, a very good list of stations is at
http://users.iafrica.com/z/zs/zs5s/buls.htm.
The PACTOR bbs's usually scan more than a dozen frequencies, so listing them
here isn't a good idea. The stations listed in the latest bulletin located
in TX are W5SEG, W5ZIT, and WB5KSD. I work WB5KSD on a regular basis on 20
MTR.
Also, I have good luck working the UK direct on 10 METERS during the
mornings around 17:00 UTC. I am in Minneapolis, Minnesota at EN34iv. Most of
the packet activity on 10 Meters is around 28105 MHz (300 baud). The station
KA1RCI is a full service BBS on that frequency.
Here is the NET 105 Guide for operating AX25 on 14105. Good Luck !

SUBJECT: "NETWORK 105" Intro!
PATH: VE1AMA
Hello and welcome to "NETWORK 105". The network is made up
of hams who use their tncs as KA-Nodes, NETROM, Netnode, PK-Nodes and
JNOS TCP/IP nodes, or any multiported nodes providing point to
point or cross over to vhf from hf, and from hf to vhf capability.
"NETWORK 105" has been in operation since June 11, 1986 and
all stations are here voluntarily, providing help, encouragement,
keeping folks in contact and also a base for further expeimentation
on hf packet. I encourage you to use the system, and any suggestions
you may have, please leave at my PBBS, or at one of the following
KA-NODE "NETWORK 105" co-ordinators helpers:
WG9V-7, Jan, Official Observer - regional co-ordinator (Operates JNOS)
WB4QOJ-7, Lee, Roanoke VA. BVDS home page "NETWORK 105" list server.
VA3HRA-7, Harvey, Exeter, Ontario.. lots of help and support.. JNOS.
