Peter, I was one of the "packet pioneers" in the North Texas area
starting back in 1985 as a founding member of the Texas Packet Radio
Society. I wrote and supported the TNC64 packet terminal program for TPRS
to fund the initial stages of the TexNet packet network. I was very
enthusiastic about packet, as all that might suggest, and very active on
two-meter packet.

Then, I heard my first HF packet signal on 20 meters. Thirty minutes
later I still had not copied a single packet due to retransmissions,
NAKS, etc.!

That was the beginning and end of my HF packet experience.

I cannot imagine a digital mode less suited for HF use than packet!
"Bother!" as Pooh Bear says.
