for the TNC2 to the PC platform.
They differ in the version of TF they are built on. You should use at
least TF 2.7. A short overview:
TFPCR has been the first port by DK4NB afaik. It is outdated (based
on TF 2.3 or something like that).
TFPCX v2.10 is based on TF2.6 I believe, also quite old
TFPCX 2.7x is based on TFPCX 2.1 and TF 2.7b. It seems actively developed
and complete.
TFX has been started when TFPCX 2.1 became outdated but there was no
source available, it is based on TF2.7b and works well. It is
split in several programs for modem, scc kiss etc, so it may
have a smaller memory foorprint than tfpcx.
TFKISS also based on tf2.7b i think.

Or SP, GP, GP85 (for windows), wingt, paxon, top, winstop, easypacket,
winpr, xpacket, mcut, ...

For PK88 there is a native port of TheFirmware.

For some devices one program is better than the othher, but you canīt say
this in general. Important is the version of TF they are based on and then
you have to try out which woirks best for you.

TFPCX273 has english docs.

FlexNet can emulate TheFirmware using a special driver called "TFEMU". This
one is _not_ based on TheFirmware code. To use TNC with FlexNet you have
to use 6pack firmware, though. And if the only thing you want is TF Hostmode,
you can plug an original TF eprom in and need no emulator at all.
(doesnīt work with KAMs)

Subject: TFX & TXPCX WA8DED emulators for KISS modems
Hi Han-Peter,
Many thanks for the history of the TFX, TXPCX etc series of programs.
I just found Nord<>LINK home page at www.nordlink.org where they list many
of these programs. (But they don't give much of a history lesson)
I see that NORD LINK lists TXPCX271 but not the more recent version TXPCX273
which I found by accident elsewhere. Very strange - I sent an EMAIL to NORD
LINK informing them of the more recent version -- TXPCX273
It would appear that TFKISS3.0 may be the most recent version of an
AX.25/WA8DED emulator for KISS modems. TFKISS3.0 is still DOS based.
But I did find a windows driver similar to TFX, TFPCX etc -- It is
TFWIN32.DLL. You can find it at the TstHost home page. TFWIN32.DLL was
developed by F6FBB and works with WinTSTHost. I don't know if it works with
other programs.
I am starting to get back into packet radio. Was on packet in the very very
early days when there was only AX.25. Now there is lots of new protocols --
DAMA, INP, etc
To me even KISS is new - hi. But it would appear that 6PACK is better and
has replaced KISS.
But I have old Kantronics modem. I will need to buy another modem that can
use 6PACK EPROM (e.g. TNC2 clone like MFJ or Pacomm) for FLEXNET.
Do you now where I can find information to get back up to speed on Packet
radio. I just read NOS Intro but there is still lots more to learn (e.g the
new protocols DAMA, INP, TheNet etc).
