eek out a db or so, saving the 9913 transmission line loss, but since
it works where it is, I never bothered. The radio is tiny enough,
it'd be easy enough to make a plastic box, and stick it up there.

Actuall the Encription Key is handed out during IMSI Attach.
It is possible to listen ot the Downlink Audio. Racal and
Rohde&Schwartz both make equipment to receive the signal.
In the US they run like $35,000 Stripped. To listen off the air bumps
them into the $60-70K range.
You have to be attached to the ABIS to recover the Cypher Key during
Call setup to make the system work.

It's encrypted, ie no. The keys are stored in the sim cards,
and you can't get them out.

Hi Bob,
Many thanks for the message. In your view, which manufacturer makes the
best TNC2 clones -- MFJ or PACOMM (eg TNC-NB96)

Well, I recall hearing somewhere that PacComm made the 9600 modem
boards for MFJ so that part should be a toss.
I have had several MFJ 1270Bs. I'm not familiar with what has changed
with the 1270C. The 1270B was most like the TNC2, with XR2206/2211
chips for the modem, while the PacComm TNCs use a TCM3105 for the 1200
baud modem (no longer available, but Gwyn stockpiled a large quantity
of the chips). PacComm has several variations--see
http://www.paccomm.com.

Subject: PCB-88 board/Pacratt
Hi name is Les. I run a PCB-88 board for VHF and HF Packett. I use the
Pacratt program that came with the board and XPWin 1.28. Both run off of
Windows 3.1.
The programs will not initialize if I run any other Dos based program in
the Packett mode.
Any body have this problem also ?
I would appreciate any of your experiences with the PCB-88 board in HF
Packett.
E-Mail me at kbtgw@spec.net, post here on rec.radio.amatuer.digital.misc or I
can be Faxed at 516-295-0985.
Tnx and 73 de Les K2TGW
