Subject: German packet radio

a reference in the Linux ax.25 HOW-TO document pointed me to a ham in
Europe that had developed a Linux packet radio via sound card bit of
software. Reading through his Web pages I found that he had also
developed a high-speed FSK modem which is now been developed into a
product by the baycom group. And I quote from their Web page:

"The new EPPFLEX high speed modem. Our brand new EPPFLEX modem allows
76k8 - 600kbit/s FSK operation (G3RUH compatible) on the EPP and ECP
port of the PC. An FPGA based design, it integrates all digital and
analog functions on a single 100 * 100mm PCB - and also allows
decoding of 1200Bd AFSK by just loading another driver! For a
detailed description, see here!"

looks awfully interesting to me and may actually be one of the reasons
why packet radio is much more popular in Europe then here. I'm
getting more information and will report what I find. One of my big
questions is: what kind of radio will I need? I'm really hoping there
is something relatively simple and not expensive one can do.
