Nope. You never indicated any interest whatsoever in becoming a Ham. What
you DID indicate an interest in was using Ham Radio equipment to access the
Internet. The advice I gave you on this was correct and straightforward...
What part of it did you have trouble comprehending?

Excellent to see that you are taking my advice, and thanks for not becoming
one more "Internet freeloader" trying to get into Ham Radio for an alleged
freebee that doesn't really exist.

Thanks for taking a hike!

Please don't let Charles get your dander up. He has a narrow
world view and possibly misinterpreted what you were saying. (VHF and UHF)
Packet Radio depends on what your nearby neighbors are doing. If you have
a scanner that covers the amateur bands, you can listen for the tell-tale
squeaks and chirps of packet radio, with a TNC/modem+computer you can
actually monitor the traffic. Then send the local hams a card or email
and ask them the questions you posted to the group...

Practical? No.
A radio solution is going to be much more expensive than twisted pair
from your phone company.
I suspect you want to browse the Web, and this is the wrong solution
to that. If, on the other hand, you are talking about a low baud data
rate, then it may be a solution, but still not practical due to cost
per byte. If you have a low baud rate application, then pure radio
will be cheaper than a hybrid of telco and radio. A low baud rate can
be done using surplus equipment from the late 70's.
One other thing to keep in mind, is that other Hams will jam you off
the air when they see that you are having fun, or experimenting with a
mode they don't understand.

Subject: Wtd: DX NET Program
I lost my disk for DX-NET and am looking for someone that has a copy.
This is a shareware program. The author has replaced it with a LINUX
version and dos not appear to have the DOS version available.
I had the DOS version running, and it does a good job, so being
familiar with DOS, I want to stay with that version.
Thanks
