Item 1) ` the backquote is used by Unix/Linux users everyday. Normally it 
is used in SED scripts.

The other two chars have been "cooked" by all the systems they've been 
through and dont match my keyboard :-)
However, if you mean the key left of 1/! on a UK keyboard, the horizontal line
with descender is an APL character IIRC. Isn't the vertical line an alternative
for the normal UK keyboard \ | key (found left of Z) ?
