Hi Pete and all,

Why are you surprised at the Amateur Radio exemption? I may be unfamiliar
with your legisaltive process I'll guess like here the people have a say
in it. While most states have passed it aimed at hand held devices while
the vehicle is in motion many like NJ in particular drafted a bill in the
usual vaguarities, a blanket that covered ALL such devices which of
course could be taken as including microphones and guess who uses
microphones. Yeah, I could envision cops giving tickets to each other.
(;->) We contacted our representitives and the final draft exempted hams
specifically, it's our public service exemption with a bit of an
extension actually. The wording of the law varies from state to state
being some legislative bodies have more sense than others but the bottom
line is when they go stupid you have to take them in hand; democracy in
action.

Pardon the vent but the phrase "you get what you deserve" applies, if you
participate in government you get what you deserve, likewise when you're
asleep and wake up to... what you deserve. The Romans had a phrase that
fits, vox populi, use it.
