Hi Ian and all,
Just yesterday the gendarmarie went out numerous times regarding door to
door solicitation after a spate of religious recruitment I just happened
to experience myself at the railway station. I don't know all the
details, radio calls don't always tell of the result of a complaint.
After a long, uphill climb we finally got state and federal prohibition
of telemarketing calls in an opt out program, I signed up and now they're
gone with the exception of the occasionable charitable organization
exempt. You just have to pressure your legislators long and hard enough,
with a bit of luck we'll kill the spammers too eventually. I suppose we
lack proper organization, perhaps a massive flood of e-mail to them would
do it. SPAM them? YOU BET! It'll get by the filters if the usual
formatiing and key words are avoided, they welcome feedback (oh what a
choice of words) from thier constituents, the VOTERS.
Meanwhile use an answering machine, it worked here as a stopgap measure.
Word gets around, soon enough they learn thier calls reach a dead end and
the flood slows to a trickle. Don't worry about the memory being
overloaded, they always hang up before it engages. To fool the robots,
delay the outgoing message a bit or eliminate it, they don't respond to
silence. Your friends will get used to you're not saying "hello" when you
pick up, others including robots are baffled by silence and humans will
respond to it with "hello?" and that's when your "voice recognition"
kicks in.
Buck up and keep a stiff upper lip old bean, you just have to be a bit
smarter than your telephone receiver. You ARE smarter than a few bits of
metal and plastic, aren't you? (;->)
