Gurgle away David but you got it wrong. John Howard did NOT introduce
sales tax. He abolished it!! He introduced the GST in its place. Get your
information right.

The result has been a sharp drop in the price of many goods which
attracted sales tax of between 25% and 33 1/3% and now had only the GST of
10%. This included white goods, motor cars, sporting equipment and many
other goods formerly classed as "luxury goods".
