Sounds good to me. I have an old Icom IC202 which only has 144.0 to 144.2
SSB but was originally designed for portable use. I wasn't too happy with
the builtin whip antenna, so I mounted a 2m quater wave on the back of my
push bike carrier, added an external battery, and I was bike mobile on 2m
SSB.
Needless to say, there was no-one else around, so no contacts were made,
but the system was certainly viable! FM is nice for repeaters and makes it
easy for contacts, but SSB is way more fun!!
