Hi Warren, it sounds as though we are very much in agreement. See my bull
on the list of US/UK equivalent words which somebody long gone put out.

I suppose I would be classed as a 'geek' as I have had an interest in
etymology since I was a kid and have the OED on this PC as the OTD.

That isn't to say I agree with them. They invent too many pointless new
words for my liking. I don't like our laws which say we can't use words
and phrases we have used for years. 'Nitty Gritty' was one of them. A good
way to get a $10000 fine.

I do keep three 19th and early 20th century etymological dictionaries as
well as my ancient Greek,Latin and Hieroglyphics ones. You can't get more
of a geek than that :-)

The people who used to contribute to the WORDS topic are all gone now,
either SK or just plain bored.
