Call it corruption if you will (Are you French?) but there is evolution
to consider. American English is a modern polyglot with many influences
and yes, Native American is in there. Look at a map of New Jersey and see
if you can spot the names, for a real challenge try to figure out which
language each is. Several are spoken by our tribes and it gets
considerably more varied as you move west across the continent. It all
started with competition among the settlers, along came immigrants and it
only got worse. (;->)
Oh, I haven't yet asked a Lenape or a Delaware what he thinks how it
would be if settlers adopted their languages, he'd probably sign back the
answer just to be snotty about it. Since I must spell out his answer it
is "You fought to establish your independence but failed to conquer your
enemy and subjugate him." NOW who speaks proper English, EH? (;->)
Yes, English is a STOLEN language. You robbed the world of it's tongues
and replaced them with silver plated ones but over time even silver
tarnishes. So what did you expect when you can't afford gold or are you
still angry with Spain for stealing it? (;->)
