Garratt locos were working on West Australian railways way back as far as
I can remember. They worked on the Darling Range lines which went up a
steep slope and elsewhere. "Push em go pull ems" as it said in the book.
Most West Australian rolling stock was manufactured in the Midland
workshops in Midland Junction where I lived for a few years.
Cheers,
Bob VK6BE.

>too bad the
name of the West Australian mining company eludes me but they have a
working Garratt in a shed all ready to go, no rust in the desert. They
were very common in Africa since they were built for the long haul
