Hi David and all,
What you wrote had nothing to do with rating based on content but that
could be expected because those outside the US are unfamiliar with the
system. TV has a similar program rating system so if violence isn't your
style avoid the PG/V stuff. I haven't done any sort of survey so I can't
say what and how much, I just watch the programs I like which BTW don't
include many Steven Segal movies. Somehow he mastered the move of kicking
a gun from the bad guy's hand, something a Kung Fu master wouldn't dare.

Assuming it's Wilmington Delaware your friend is in, the state's capitol
is hardly "small town America". and second to Maryland in it's
conservatism at least by reputation. Had he visited the state just to the
south 30 years ago and gone to the movies he'd have seen the slide
displayed before every presentation, "Approved by the Maryland Board of
Censors." Around that time married couples on TV slept in separate beds
and when they sat together (no hanky panky under the sheets) each had one
foot on the floor. Still the good guys in white hats shot it out with the
bad guys in black hats and the Indians shot at everybody (but who could
blame them). America loves violence and is afraid of sex or so it seems,
then Janus turns the other face forward, oh my, look at what THEY'RE
doing!
Never mind the crap you're hearing about the Virginia Tech shooting,
people love to run off at the mouth leaving the brain home in a basket.
Stupid remarks are all over the Internet and many are speculating on what
sort of an effect it will have on gun control and the upcoming elections.
IMO, if the pollies have any sense they'll keep their polly parrot beaks
closed, we're sick to death with numbskulls who can't protect us taking
away our protection. No, I'm not in favor of walking around with a six
shooter on my hip, you know what I mean, in states with proper laws a
burglar thinks twice before climbing in the window and the crime stats
prove it.
Oh, need I remind you that gun violence is on the rise in the UK dispite
your stricter gun control laws? What does that tell you about the NRA
mantra? That's right, when guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns,
thanks for proving it. So, what's the solution? There isn't any, never
was and never will be, the world is what it is and all we can do is cope
the best we can.
